Meropenem for intravenous administration is indicated for the treatment of the following infections in children and adults caused by one or more pathogens sensitive to meropenem:
Pneumonia, including nosocomial pneumonia;
Urinary tract infections;
Abdominal infections;
Gynecological infections, such as endometritis and pelvic inflammatory diseases;
Skin infections and their structure;
Meningitis;
Septicemia; sepsis;
Empirical treatment in the form of monotherapy or in combination with antiviral or antifungal agents if infection with symptoms of febrile neutropenia is suspected in adult patients.
Meropenem has been shown to be effective as monotherapy or in combination with other antimicrobial agents in the treatment of polymicrobial infections. There is no experience of using the drug in pediatric practice in patients with neutropenia or with primary or secondary immunodeficiency.
Meropenem is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to meropenem.
